Well, I have decided once again to start writing on this blog. I am doing it for a few different reasons but the main one is to start connecting again with people. So many times people ask me about my art and why I made a particular piece that I thought I'd start sharing. I have also decided to publish my first children's book. I have written many over the years and I have gotten to the "Why Not" stage of my life. You know, that's the stage where you are have less years in front of you than behind you. I have my grandchildren to thank for the proverbial push that I needed.

So, here I am starting my Blog back up and I will try to write at least once a week, sharing my thoughts and insights on my art and my writing. Come along and join me if you'd like to hear my ramblings or you're interested in how this new venture of publishing is going. Leave me a comment if you'd like to share back with me.

Till Next Time,

Ellie

Looking Back and Looking Foward https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2012/12/looking-back-and-looking-foward I'm sitting here on New Year's Eve and trying to take an objective look at the year past and the one to come, as many of us do. I believe it's important to evaluate and access my business plan and my personal goals to make sure I am still on the path that I have chosen for myself. I need to ask myself some hard questions and really look inside for the answers. This year has been eventful for me as an artist and as a photographer. First of all I would like to thank all of my clients through the year, it was a joy to work with you. It's important to me to create portraits that you love with the highest quality available so they will last longer than a lifetime.

My year started out with bang when I decided to help the Humane Society make a fundraiser calendar. Of course as with all good intentions this one had its own learning curve. But I'm happy to report that after finding and photographing13 pinup pet models ranging from cats to a tortoise everyone seemed to be happy with the outcome. There are still a few available for sale, (hint, hint).

In March I decided to joined with 12 other local artists and planned the opening of South Shore Artisans, in Fair Haven. Wow, getting everything set and ready for a June 30th opening date was a whirl wind. I created a large mosaic sign (mosaics being one of my other creative outlets), while getting photo's ready for opening day. A huge thank you to my husband Charlie, who is my support and my right hand man, cutting mats and helping with all sorts of projects. Plus, he puts up with my craziness. In between these adventures we took sports & prom pictures and started on senior photo shoots.

I am continuing to hone my skills and have started to put more energy into creative portrait painting, which is on my artistic goal list for this year. So, be sure to check back to my web page periodically as I post more of these types of portraits. Portrait painting is a cross between photography and painting on the computer. I usually extract the portrait and then use brushes and paint colors to create unique pieces. It definitely takes more time but I think the effect is worth it.

I am also looking forward to putting more energy into my mosaic art this year. So, look for pieces being hung in the gallery this spring along side my photography. I will also be accepting a few commissioned pieces if anyone has a need for a unique sign or piece of art.

So, there you have it, the beginning goals for the New Year, of course I also have the get healthier, meditate and exercise more, etc. There are always things in this life I strive to do better.

Wishing you and yours a New Year filled with happiness.
Till next time!

Fair Haven Presents ~ Jingle Around The Town https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2012/12/fair-haven-presents-jingle-around-the-town Fair Haven Presents ~ Jingle Around The Town

Ten days before Christmas and all through the town,
The Jingle Bell runners will be stepping around.
Come out on the streets, you can walk, run or cheer.
You might even see people dressed as reindeer.

Local shops will be open; the holiday’s near.
Bring friends and relatives to join in the cheer.
So, amble the streets and come look around.
Everyone will be interested in the goodies you found.

Have you heard what they’re saying; could it be true?
South Shore Artisans will host a harpist for you.
The Wellness Center will offer relaxing foot scrubs.
Collecting for the food pantry with each massage rub.

Santa might stop by the Hardware Cafe
But not his reindeer I am sorry to say.
The wine store has tastings, the Front Porch has sales.
And some local writers will be sharing their tales.

Walk through the streets; you’ll hear Christmas sounds.
People are talking; it’s the buzz of the town.
Stop by the Legion for a scrumptious meal.
Chicken and biscuits what a great deal.

If you’d rather have pizza there are two perfect spots.
You can go to Giuseppe's or go to Scott’s.
Please remember others, less fortunate than you.
The Food Bank would appreciate a dollar or two.

Click the Chamber’s Facebook; the schedule is there.
Catch Fair Haven’s excitement that’s stirring the air.
We’re pulling together, to make our town shine.
Come enjoy Christmas Spirit and have a great time.

Humane Society Calendar https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2012/11/humane-society-calendar Calendar26 Hello Everyone,

Well as you can see I have not been very good with my blog lately. No excuses! But I did want to stop by and tell you about the Humane Society Calendar that I designed and took all the monthly pinup photos for.

The humane society only employs one part time person. Everything else is run by volunteers. So, the money they make goes right into feeding, fostering and helping the animals. All the animals in this calendar have been adopted or are looking for adoption.

So... please support your local Humane Society and buy a calendar today. Y Calendars may also be purchased at both South Shore Artisans and The Bayview Wellness Center in Fair Haven, and they will be for sale at Home 4 the Holidays at the Oswego Armory on Sunday, November 11th from 11 to 3. Or call me at 947-6934 to place an order.

Thanks for your support!

Ellie

Where has July Gone? https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2012/8/where-has-july-gone Hi Everyone,

Just where has the time gone? It seems like only yesterday it was the 4th of July. I have been keeping busy between the opening of the new art gallery in Fair Haven and community events.

The art gallery "South Shore Artisans" opened it's doors on June 30th, after many hours and much hard work by the 13 local arts. If you haven't stopped in yet we are open everyday and would welcome a visit. We offer: Paintings, watercolors & oils, handmade baskets, wood turner items such as bowls and candle holder, bees wax candles to go in those holders, pottery, stained glass items, jewelery and of course photography. Eventually, will also be selling some of my mosaic work once I find time to make more pieces. It took me many hours to make our sign and I just haven't had time to go back into my mosaic studio. So, anyway stop in and take a look around and think of us for your gift giving needs.

Lots of happenings in Fair Haven have also been keeping me out of trouble. I've taken photo's for the Hospice run over the fourth and of course so parade shots. I was also asked by O'Connor's Main Street Pub to document their Irish Festival. Great music, great food and it was nice meeting up with friends.

In between all that I've been able to actually work on my business of taking portraits. It's a great time to think of your family portrait needs and senior portraits:) Hint, hint ... give me a call today to book yours.

Till next time,

Ellie

Calendar Project https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2012/5/calendar-project Hello All,IMG_2376.JPG

As some of you may already know I have taken on a new project. I am going to be helping the humane society with a fund raiser to benefit abandoned and abused animals. We all love our animals and many of you own a rescued pet. So... here's your chance. Enter the contest below and let us know how your pet was rescued and why your they deserves to be a pet pin up for a month.

We are also looking for help getting the word out about the contest and to let people know that it will be for sale in the late fall. So please feel free to share this with your friends. I will add a PDF file on my site for anyone who would like to download it.

I'll keep you posted as things progress with this project.

PS. ALL PETS WHICH HAVE BEEN STRAY'S OR ADOPTED ARE ELIGIBLE TO ENTER!

Till next time!

How Your Pet Can Be In The . . . Calendar

It’s easy. Send a digital picture of the pet who has won a place in your heart and he or she may win a place in the calendar too. Here are the rules:

1. For just a $10 entry fee, the first 180 entries will be guaranteed a place on one of the days of the calendar. First come, first assigned for the specific day, but you can give us a selection of several days and we will do our best to assign one of those. You can enter online or send in this form and then email the picture to us. You can enter more than one pet but there is a fee for each entry.

2. Your pet must have been adopted or rescued from any humane organization or animal control officer. You are not limited to dogs and cats.

3. If we receive your entry by May 29th, 2012, your pet will be entered into a competition to win a professional photo shoot with Ellen Gerberich of Nature’s Palette Photography, to be used on one of the 13 main pages of the calendar. Entries will be judged by Ellen Gerberich and the OCHS calendar committee. All decisions are final. If your pet is chosen you will be notified of the arrangements for the photo shoot to create the calendar page. (Final deadline for all entries is June 30, 2012.)

Fair Haven Winter Carnival https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2012/2/8_Fair_Haven_Winter_Carnival Come one come all to the Fair Haven Winter Carnival. February 11 at Sabin Hall @ the Fair Haven State Park.

Snow or no snow the show will go on.

Ok, Ok, I understand! No snow sculpture, no skiing, no
snowshoe race. How can a Winter Carnival survive? Don’t despair there will still be lots of fun things to do.

Start with the pancake breakfast and move on from there. Join the Run\Walk or just cheer them on. The Scavenger Hunt has been change to run all day.
Volleyball will be played on the sand instead of snow. Games for the kids and Bingo for everyone else will be going on through out the day. The Winter Photo’s will be hung and judged and you can help pick the best in show.

In the evening put your dance shoe on and dance the night away to the Pink Cadillac Band.

All profits from the Winter Carnival will go back into our community and be donated to the food pantry and the Fair Haven Chamber will be adding matching funds.

Hope to see you there!

The Fair Haven Fire Departments Woman's Auxiliary sponsored a breakfast with Santa on Sunday morning which was well attended the community. I am so glad that they invited me to capture the amazing sense of wonder that Santa
captures in children.

Thanksgiving Prayer https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2011/11/24_Thanksgiving_Prayer To those who are near and those who are far we send our love where ever you are. The following is our favorite Thanksgiving Blessing.
A Haudenosaunee "Thanksgiving" Prayer
GREETINGS TO THE NATURAL WORLD!
The People
Today we have gathered and we see that the cycles of life continue. We have been given the duty to live in balance and harmony with each other and all living things. So now, we bring our minds together as one as we give greetings and thanks to each other as People.
Now our minds are one.
The Earth Mother
We are all thankful to our Mother, the Earth, for she gives us all that we need for life. She supports our feet as we walk about upon her. It gives us joy that she continues to care for us as she has from the beginning of time. To our Mother, we send greetings and thanks.
Now our minds are one.
The Waters
We give thanks to all the Waters of the world for quenching our thirst and providing us with strength. Water is life. We know its power in many forms - waterfalls and rain, mists and streams, rivers and oceans. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to the spirit of water.
Now our minds are one.
The Fish
We turn our minds to all the Fish life in the water. They were instructed to cleanse and purify the water. They also give themselves to us as food. We are grateful that we can still find pure water. So, we turn now to the Fish and send our greetings and thanks.
Now our minds are one.
The Plants
Now we turn toward the vast fields of Plant life. As far as the eye can see, the Plants grow, working many wonders. They sustain many life forms. With our minds gathered together, we give thanks and look forward to seeing Plant life for many generations to come.
Now our minds are one.
The Food Plants
With one mind, we turn to honor and thank all the Food Plants we harvest from the garden. Since the beginning of time, the grains, vegetables, beans and berries have helped the people survive. Many other living things draw strength from them too. We gather all the Plant Foods together as one and send them a greeting and thanks.
Now our minds are one.
The Medicine Herbs
Now we turn to all the Medicine herbs of the world. From the beginning, they were instructed to take away sickness. They are always waiting and ready to heal us. We are happy there are still among us those special few who remember how to use these plants for healing. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to the Medicines and to the keepers of the Medicines.
Now our minds are one.
The Animals
We gather our minds together to send greetings and thanks to all the Animal life in the world. They have many things to teach us as people. We see them near our homes and in the deep forests. We are glad they are still here and we hope that it will always be so.
Now our minds are one.
The Trees
We now turn our thoughts to the Trees. The Earth has many families of Trees who have their own instructions and uses. Some provide us with shelter and shade, others with fruit, beauty and other useful things. Many peoples of the world use a Tree as a symbol of peace and strength. With one mind, we greet and thank the Tree life.
Now our minds are one.
The Birds
We put our minds together as one and thank all the Birds who move and fly about over our heads. The Creator gave them beautiful songs. Each day they remind us to enjoy and appreciate life. The Eagle was chosen to be their leader. To all the Birds - from the smallest to the largest - we send our joyful greetings and thanks.
Now our minds are one.
The Four Winds
We are all thankful to the powers we know as the Four Winds. We hear their voices in the moving air as they refresh us and purify the air we breathe. They help to bring the change of seasons. From the four directions they come, bringing us messages and giving us strength. With one mind, we send our greetings and thanks to the Four Winds.
Now our minds are one.
The Thunderers
Now we turn to the west where our Grandfathers, the Thunder Beings, live. With lightning and thundering voices, they bring with them the water that renews life. We bring our minds together as one to send greetings and thanks to our Grandfathers, the Thunderers.
Now our minds are one.
The Sun
We now send greetings and thanks to our eldest Brother, the Sun. Each day without fail he travels the sky from east to west, bringing the light of a new day. He is the source of all the fires of life. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to our Brother, the Sun.
Now our minds are one.
Grandmother Moon
We put our minds together and give thanks to our oldest grandmother, the Moon, who lights the night-time sky. She is the leader of women all over the world, and she governs the movement of the ocean tides. By her changing face we measure time, and it is the Moon who watches over the arrival of children here on Earth. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to our Grandmother, the Moon.
Now our minds are one.
The Stars
We give thanks to the Stars who are spread across the sky like jewelry. We see them in the night, helping the Moon to light the darkness and bringing dew to the gardens and growing things. When we travel at night, they guide us home. With our minds gathered together as one, we send greetings and thanks to all the Stars.
Now our minds are one.
The Enlightened Teachers
We gather our minds to greet and thank the enlightened Teachers who have come to help throughout the ages. When we forget how to live in harmony, they remind us of the way we were instructed to live as people. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to these caring Teachers.
Now our minds are one.
The Creator
Now we turn our thoughts to the Creator, or Great Spirit, and send greetings and thanks for the gifts of Creation. Everything we need to live a good life is here on this Mother Earth. For all the love that is still around us, we gather our minds together as one and send our choicest words of greetings and thanks to the Creator.
Now our minds are one.
Closing Words
We have now arrived at the place where we end our words. Of all the things we have named, it was not our intention to leave anything out. If something was forgotten, we leave it to each individual to send such greetings and thanks in their own way.
Now our minds are one.

Blessing to all,

Goodbye Fall https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2011/11/16_Goodbye_Fall

As the days grow shorter and night descends a little quicker each evening, I thought it would only be appropriate to say a fitting goodbye to fall. The trees have been bidding us farewell as they slowly dance their last tango to the ground. As winter approaches and the air turns crisper Mother Earth is slowing her pace.

This fall has been incredibly beautiful, with it’s warm weather and spectacular warming light. Makes this photographer happy to walk in the woods with her camera:)

As I walk, as I walk
The universe is walking with me
In beauty it walks before me
In beauty it walks behind me
In beauty it walks below me
In beauty it walks above me
Beauty is on every side
As I walk, I walk with Beauty.
(Navajo Prayer)

As Thanksgiving approaches I wanted to say thank you to family, friend & clients for your continuing support.
I am truly blessed.

Happy Thanksgiving!

The Witches Are Coming, The Witches Are Coming https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2011/10/The-Witches-Are-Coming-The-Witches-Are-Coming Wow! Two Blog entries in one day, this is a record for me:) Guess I just have a lot to say today.

Mark your calendars and get you costumes ready because the Fair Haven Witches Parade & Fall Festival is coming back to town. Bigger & Better then ever!!

October 22nd is the place to be if you want to join in on the fun for young and old alike.

Adults, think about doing some Christmas shopping early. The shops in town will be open and there will be artisans in the park selling hand crafted work. From jewelry and wood work to iron work and pottery. There will be essential oils and organic salves and someone selling handmade bags.

There will be games for the kids and music all day.
Good food to eat and time to catch up with neighbors and friends.

I will be setting up a photo booth once again, taking pictures of witches, goblins and friends. The sittings are free for this community event and posted online for anyone wishing to order.

So get your brooms ready and fly on by - please drop in just to say hi. Till next time!

Get Stoned Workshop https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2011/10/17_Get_Stoned_Workshop Saturday I had the opportunity to attend a writer’s workshop right here in my little town of Fair Haven. Thanks to Karen Haas from the “Bayview Wellness Center & Spa” who paired up with local writer Susan Peterson Gateley to put on Stone Stories, A Great Lake Writing Workshop.

All together eleven writer’s from various back rounds ended up spending the day combing the shoreline of West Barrier Bar, sharing lunch at the Hardware Cafe’ and then trekking out to Scotts Bluff for more writing inspiration.

Back to the Wellness Center to share readings & writings.
With the overall agreement that we didn’t want to let go of this creative, diversified energy, we have already set a date to reconvene and continue our writing journey. I look forward to listening & sharing the writing gems that come out of this day.

My inner core is fulfilled when I create. To release or elicit emotion, be it with my camera, cooking, media art or using the written word makes me feel alive.

So, here’s to imagination & inspiration,
Till next time!

Senior Explosion https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2011/10/3_Senior_Explosion
So life finds me very busy photographing young adults and trying to capture their personalities using a digital format.

When you don’t find me behind my lens, chances are you will find me in front of my computer screen designing one of a kind collage composites. This where I try to meld 3-9 prints into one cohesive collection. If your going to hang it on your wall I want it to convey an emotional feeling.

Thank You all for giving me the opportunity to share this exciting time with you.

Small Town Americana https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2011/7/11_Small_Town_Americana
Come on down to Fair Haven NY and experience the fun 1st hand. Everyone lines the streets for the hour long parade followed by a chicken BBQ ( get there early they always seem to run out on parade night).
There is always a local band playing in the pavilion in the evening for everyones listening and dancing pleasure.

The town bustles with an Arts & Craft fair in the town park and a classic car show sponsored by the Bayside Cruisers. Which is where you would have found me taking photo’s of classic cars for 6 hours straight. Well, at least I don’t need to try and get them to smile. But honestly, 136 cars in all! Check them out with the link lhttp://www.zenfolio.com/naturespalettes/f325352932/edit://.

On the 4th there is a boat parade on Little Sodus Bay, about 30 boats this year participated. I‘m lucky enough to have dear friends with a boat.

At the end of this fun filled weekend make sure you stick around for a wonderful fireworks display.
A special thanks goes out to all the SOFA members who keep this great Fair Haven tradition alive.

Till next time celebrate life!

Fairies & Gnomes Oh My https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2011/5/Fairies-Gnomes-Oh-My untitled-135

On Saturday Fair Haven celebrated spring with it’s first annual May Festival event. The fairies , gnomes and nature sprits did their part and graced us with a beautiful day. Many young & old gnomes & fairies dressed the part marched in the parade and relished in an imagination journey.

There were games to play , things to buy from a variety of local vendors and artisans and information to help educate us, from organic gardening to a health & wellness fair. The village was a buzz with the flutter of wings with all the local shops becoming a part of this magical time.

I set up a photo booth to look like a fairy garden and gave free sittings with the photo’s being posted on line within the next week for purchase. Here’s the link for viewing: http://www.zenfolio.com/naturespalettes/f386409833/edit .

I think it’s important for community events like this one to continue. So often children and adults get wrapped up in our hi - tech world and forget how enjoyable it is to tap into their imaginations.

Till next time let you imagination soar!

Everyone looked wonderful all dressed up and a good time was had by all. It was fun having them all sit on the crescent moon prop. Thanks to my husband,
it worked like I planned, he always helps my ideas come to fruition.

The Prom Court was : Prince: Evan Sutterby, Princess: Alison Roden, King: Dan Burnett, Queen: Nicole Pauldine.

I am always honored to be the Prom photographer.
The photo’s will on the viewing site as soon as I’m done editing.

Home Again https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2011/5/1_Home_Again
Chicago found us enjoying the Art Institute, Science Museum and Navy Pier. With good food and a Chicago hotdog thrown in.

Driving through Nebraska gave us a good under -standing of how vast our country is. The flattest land one ever did see. Huge blue sky with fields of varying browns & tans. One could only imagine how it might look in it’s glory with fields of corn waving in the breeze.

Fort Collins was for sharing time with our grand babies, (son & daughter-in-law too), enjoying the playground and the Denver Zoo.

On the road again with a stop at the “Garden Of The Gods”, incredible red rock formation chiseled out millions of years ago, my camera was on overdrive.

An austere yet strangely beautiful site of high plains meeting the snow covered Rocky Mountains was our entertainment as we drove through CO headed to NM

The art and the food in Santa Fe, was incredible. Oh!!! I dream about green chili’s still. We had time to explore, Madrid, Pueblo Ruins in Peco’s and learn a bit about turquoise mining.

On our drive to Austin TX we were given a taste of what the dust bowl must have been like. The winds blew and turned the sky and countryside brown. We enjoyed a visit with our son & future daughter-in-law exploring the Botanical Gardens and enjoying the sights & sounds that 6th street had to offer.

It was interesting to see the land changes from prairie & mesa’s to coastal wetlands on our drive to New Orleans.
Each place we have visited has had it’s own beauty but it was nice to see a large shoreline once again.

Once again our taste buds and ears were delighted. We enjoyed creole food, from gumbo to oysters, and listened to blues, jazz and Zydeco music. All I can say is, Bourbon Street is a crazy place. Some of the best musicians were playing on the street. They basically took up residence on the street, claiming their spots by 7AM. One might ask how I know this? Well, my husband is such a good guy he got up early after a late night and walked the near empty street with me so I could take photo's of the varied architecture & balconies. As we walked the musicians were already setting up for the day entertainment. To tell you the truth the tourists probably entertained them as much as they entertained us.

Next stop Nashville to see our daughter and son-in-law. Saturday night saw us sitting at the Grand Ole Opry taking part in one of the 85th year live broadcast. It was a cultural experience. With names like Little Jimmy Dickens, (4'11") who's the oldest living member of the Opry at 90, still sharing jokes & music. Danny Gokey(apparently, he was 3rd runner up on American Idol) and my favorite Martina McBride. There were many great musicians on the stage during the night.

On Easter the 4 of us took in a Sounds game in a near empty stadium. Third row 1st baseline seats, a bit nerve wracking when the balls wiz your way from left handed batters. Unfortunately, they lost.

I also had a mentoring appointment at the Nashville Song Writer's Association. I was able to glean some knowledge and some tips from a successful song writer and told how hard the business is to break into. Well, I think I'll keep writing anyway, it make me happy:) Here’s the song they critiqued that I wrote for my son’s wedding. Remember, I’m a writer not a singer so listen at your own risk.

So... now I’m home again reality is back and I’m gearing up for the next weeks Red Creek Prom.

Blessings to all, till next time!

A Studio Logo https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2011/3/30_A_Studio_Logo This week found me designing a studio logo with the help and input from family and friends as the design progressed.
The studio colors will be brown and olive green to go along with my studio’s theme. Here is the prototype at right.

Watch for the portrait pricing guide it’s in the final stages of revision and will give important information about my studio as well as pricing information. I have change the way I structure prices from last year realizing that clients wanted more flexibility then pre made package pricing offered. Everyones needs are different and packages just weren’t giving the options that most people wanted. So, this year I’ve gone to an Al-a-carte pricing with incentives for the more you purchase. In effect the same concept with much more flexibility.

I am in the process of designing senior graduation invitations and announcements so look for these in the coming weeks.
Happiness to all till next time!]]>

Oh Snow https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2011/3/24_Oh_Snow When I woke up today at 4:45, I looked out the window and saw the snow outside. Something in me rebelled at the snow and I had this urging to tell it to go. So, I wrote the snow a quick little poem hoping to send back to it’s sky home. Enjoy!

Oh Snow!
By Ellen Gerberich

Oh snow!
Oh snow!
Won’t you please go away
The crocus and daffodils
Want to put on their display

Oh snow!
Oh snow!
Won’t you please subside
The birds are singing
It’s time to play outside

Oh snow!
Oh snow!
Won’t you please stop falling
I’m waiting for Spring
My heart feels the yearning

Oh snow!
Oh snow!
Won’t you please go to sleep
I want to hear sounds
Like the peepers who peep

Oh snow!
Oh snow!
You’re lovely it’s true
But only in Winter
Not the whole year through

Till next time!

Walking Stick https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2011/3/10_Walking_Stick
Walking Stick
By
Ellen Gerberich

When I was a young man
I had spring in my step
A bounce in my knee
I held my head hi
Saying, hey look at me

But, I’m getting a bit older
I’ve got gray in my hair
My knees started creaking
The bounce just ain’t there

I still hold my head high
I have nothing to hide
I walk with a stick
I swing it with pride

So if you see me
Walking along
Swinging my stick
And humming a song

Smile when you see me
Wave at me too
‘Cause as the years pass
It could happen to you

Spread kindness till next time!

Small Town Appeal https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2011/3/5_Small_Town_Appeal Living in a small town is not everyones idea of a blessing. Especially one that dwindles down from a bustling population of about 2000 in the summer to maybe 800 during the winter months. Yet, there is something to be said for that saying “It has small town appeal.”

Yes, I do have to drive at least 20 minutes, in good weather, to get to a grocery store of any size. But, can that large store can give me the feeling of belonging? In my town you go to the store and you know everyone, heck, they even know your husband likes ham salad and a remind you that a fresh batch has just been made.

It’s also true that there’s are not many place to go for an evening entertainment. Of course we do have our equivalent to “Cheers” where everyone does “truly know your name.”

The people who live in small communities know how to make their own entertainment. The fire department puts on a fish fry every Friday night during Lent. Think about this, approximately 200 dinners sold in a little over an hour. All these with only 2 fryers. Wow!

We’ve had snowmobile races, a winter festival & dance and of course ice fishing derbies. And if you’ve never been to Fair Haven during fourth of July, you’ve never experienced small town Americana at it’s very best.

I live in a place where if your not feeling well someone will probably bring you chicken soup and if you’re in need the whole community would turn out at a moments notice.

Yes, I do miss out on the day to day cultural diversity of a big city and I have to travel to go to the symphony, museum or even a movie. But, for me there is just something so comforting and peaceful about knowing your neighbors and living in a small town that all the draw backs seems a small price to pay.

Joy & Peace to all!]]>

Snowmobile Races In Fair Haven https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2011/1/29_Snowmobile_Races_In_Fair_Haven Fast Sleds and Good Times:

Well, our little town was hoppin’ today. The icy track on Little Sodus Bay was lined with hundreds of spectators bundled up against the cold. Snowmobiles of every size, speed and color could be seen everywhere, I can’t even begin to guess how many were there. And boy were they fast & loud.

It was a beautiful 30 degree day with our Great Lake Ontario giving us a reprieve from the wind. If you live near the lake you know that this was truly a blessing from the winter Gods.

The Women’s Auxiliary was busy keeping up with the hungry hoards and I bet hot cocoa was made by the gallon. The Little Sodus Inn was basically standing room only for most of the day.

It was nice to be able to get outside for some fresh air and catch up with friends. The day ended warming up at a friends house watching a disappointing SU game.

Say La Vie
Till next time!

Happy Thanksgiving https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2010/11/24_Happy_Thanksgiving_1 Sorry it’s been awhile since my last entry I’ve been crazy busy. I get so busy taking and editing photographs and designing new greeting cards that I forget about my poor little blog.

This is what’s been happening in my world lately.
In May I photographed my beautiful nieces wedding in Boston..

In June we greeted a beautiful new little grandson Eli Robert.

July started the senior portrait season off.
I also was privileged to be the wedding photographer for my dear friends son Bill and his stunning bride Brittany.
July also brought most of my family together for a bit of a reunion. With children & families all over the country that is always cause for celebration:)

August & September were busy with Kayala & Bryan’s wedding and taking the fall sports pictures for Red Creek.

October was filled with trying to finish senior portraits to be handed into the yearbook. Also hosting a photo shoot for the Fair Haven Annual Witches Parade. Which this year grew in size to include vendors and Halloween happenings through out the town.

So that brings us up to date and I’ll be working on adding some of these happenings to my page. It’s now the end of November with Thanksgiving tomorrow.

May we give thanks for the natural world around us who’s life giving force surrounds us with love. May we live in balance and harmony with all living thing.

Sending you all greetings and thanks from my house to yours!

Fair Haven Witches Parade https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2010/10/24_Fair_Haven_Witches_Parade A Day Of Fun In Fair Haven:

The witches came to play on this beautiful fall colored day.
They ranged from young maiden to wise crone.
The streets and park were their home.
There was much to see and much to do.
There were artisans and games and yummy food too.
You could have your face painted or your cards read.
Talk to a local author or have your photo taken instead.
(By me of course:)
Children dunked for apples.
The Headless Horseman came for the parade.
DJ Bob Riggio played music all day.
So, if your looking to have some fun next year.
Come to Fair Haven in October.
It’s an annual Gala event that happens every year.

Happy Halloween!

In the building stages https://www.naturespalettephotographyart.com/blog/2010/3/4_In_the_building_stages Hello Everyone,

Well, I am still at it after a 2 months of building this web site and I haven’t given up yet. Now that’s dedication:) This is certainly a learning curve and I have just reminded myself why I am an artist and not a computer programer. This is tedious work.

If you are reading this and have found my page it means that I have accomplished what I set out to do. Bring my photography into the new millennium. There will be more pages coming soon with tweaking to current pages happening often so please bear with me.

This little possum just came out from hibernation over the weekend, spring is in the air:)
